| The Great Race Widely regarded as perhaps the greatest racing driver of all time, Tazio Nuvolari embodied the competitive spirit like few before or since. At Monaco in 1933 he fought a race long duel with arch-rival Achille Varzi. Varzi's Bugatti T51 and the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 of Nuvolari were closely matched and the pair swapped the lead numerous times throughout the 100 lap race. Here, Nuvolari leads Varzi through the Gasworks Hairpin, trailed by another of the ubiquitous Alfa 8Cs. As they blasted out of the tunnel and onto the sea front towards the finish on the last lap, both men over revved the engines of their cars. Nuvolari's Alfa blew up while Varzi went on to victory.
